 Fall Break Lutheran College Tour

OCTOBER 21st-26th

Still wondering what to do for fall break? We are going to check out 5 Lutheran Colleges in 5 days. We will be spending a lot of time in various campus settings, sharing worship time, meals, and in class time with students from these colleges. We are going to be touring the following colleges: Augustana-Sioux Falls, Gustavus, Luther, Wartburg, and Bethany- Lindsborg KS.

Something to keep in mind, students typically receive 2 days a year to visit schools. We are going on a bus with a maximum of 22 youth.  Gary Knutson, Youth Director at Christ Lutheran in Highlands Ranch will be driving his church bus.

Cost is $50 for transportation (payable to Bethany Lutheran Church)

$100 for food, which the youth will carry on themselves(this is a conservative guess since most schools will provide meals for us)

RSVP needed by October 1st.

Why Lutheran?

The research carefully compared the college experiences of graduates from all types of institutions.   Lutheran colleges were far more effective than large public institutions at:

• actively involving students in the classroom
• creating interaction with faculty
• engaging students in experiential learning
• generating participation and leadership in extracurricular activities
• integrating faith and values throughout the college experience

Please let me know, by October 1st, if you are interested in sending your child on this trip.

Youth Choir

***   Join the Youth Choir!   ***

Each Wednesday at 5:30 in room 315
Grades 6-12
We have a new choir this year for all you-th. Zach and Alex Rodasti are the leaders of this choir and bring a huge background of musical gifts with them. This light hearted casual choir is fitting for the youth who have gifts to share through song, dance, and any other way to show praise. We sing once monthly in Worship on Wednesdays, and also special music on occasional Sundays.

Mission Trip Ministry
Grades 8-12

2 Corinthians 9:12
This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.

Mission trips have been a long standing tradition at Bethany, and will continue to be, as we move forward in our Faith Formation Ministry model.  Each year tens of youth and youth leaders find themselves responding to the call to go out and serve in the world that God has created. In serving, we find that we are often humbled, brought closer to our communities, and open to what the spirit is calling us to.

Each year we are sent out on two different missions. Each mission is different and unique. Some are relationship based, some trips have more of a service base while others focus on the community and issues regarding justice. Over the years and throughout mission trips you see that the need is great whether we are in Denver, California, Nicaragua, or Ecuador. Jesus needs us everywhere and has called us to help ALL in need, not just our immediate neighbors.

Mission trips are possible for a few reasons. First of all, the Spirit has planted a call in our hearts that we can not deny and we know that we must go on these missions for God. Second, families agree that this is a must for our youth and commit to send them out through prayer, commitment, and of course some financial assistance. Third, Bethany and its members feel the call to send them out as ambassadors of our congregation. We do this through prayer, conversation and again financial contributions.

Without all of these key factors we would not have Mission Trip Ministry, and we thank you for all of your contributions. So we ask you, where is the Spirit leading you to get involved with Mission Trip Ministry?

2009 trips are to Iowa and New Orleans. The Iowa mission trip is going to be based out of Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp where we will be assisting with cleanup from last summers storms that hit Iowa. The 2009 National Youth Gathering of the ELCA is going to be in New Orleans from July 22-26. To learn more about the gathering you can go to http://archive.elca.org/youth/gathering.html. Both trips are Mission focused and we still have space available for both trips.

If you have any questions or suggestions please contact Kevin Dragseth at 303-639-4342 or kevin@bethany-denver.org.

Vertical Life/SR High Youth Group

Vertical Life is our SR High Youth group that meets each Wednesday night through out the year, summers included. Each week we include time to check in with everyone, share devotions, community prayer for all of our concerns, and random activities like singing, board games, and pool. We have started a sign up for participants to bring snacks each week so there will always be food.

All are welcome, including former youth, whether you’re a visitor for a week or your looking for a weekly event to attend we would love to have you at Vertical Life.

Connect! Sunday School

CONNECT-1

Join us Sunday Mornings in the Youth area for Connect; the all new Sunday morning youth program. This year we will be connecting with others, ourselves and our faith. We will do this through lesson, fellowship and service. Lots of fun, games, and, of course, food! Music is always a key component and this year a youth house band will lead our opening time together.

Senior High (9-12 grade) and Middle School (6-8) grade will join together for our rocking opening in room 412, before dividing into groups. Middle school will remain in 412 and the Senior High will move next door to 415 for interactive lessons and small group discussion.

JOIN US EVERY SUNDAY FROM 9:00 – 10:15
