Global Community
The Global Mission Task Force seeks to expand awareness within Bethany of the global community of faith and to share the gifts that God has given us with the global community through preaching, teaching, and compassionately serving others.
The group has helped and funded missions in Liberia, Central America, New Guinea, Russia, Madagascar, Tanzania, Romania, Uganda, and Nicaragua. The task force is passionate about partnering with the global community of faith and sharing gifts with them, as well as learning from them as fellow Christians who can teach us many things.
The Global Mission Task Force is actively seeking additional members to help develop sub-groups to work on individual projects. The group meets the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00pm at Bethany Lutheran Church.

CARE Center in Namakkal, India Thanks Bethany Members for Slit Lamp
Bethany Lutheran Church has helped to fund the first eye clinic for AIDS Patients in Tamil Nadu, India. In 2011, the CARE (Concern for AIDS Research and Education) Center in Namakkal was able to purchase a slit lamp, generator and eye examination equipment with funding approved by Bethany’s Global Mission Task Force. CARE secured an eye doctor who agreed to donate his time on Tuesday afternoons to see HIV/AIDS patients in this part of southern India. The entire staff at CARE sends their thanks to the members of Bethany for their generosity and kindness.
The inauguration of the clinic was covered in India’s national newspaper, the Hindu. Here are some excerpts from the article:
• “… the State’s first eye clinic exclusively to cater to the needs of Persons Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) was inaugurated at Namakkal, …”
• “President of CARE, Dr. N.M. Samuel, told The Hindu that the clinic intends to put an end to discrimination of PLWHA in healthcare centers and ensure that they were not deprived of quality health facilities. According to Dr. Samuel, eye problems are common to AIDS patients in all stages of the disease, while many of them even lost their eye sight due to the co-infections coupled with lowered immunity.”
• “Children’s performance in schools is affected by poor eye sight while women find it hard to be employed with defective eye sight. But eye sight remains neglected by those persons as they have other issues of concern to fight.”

Dear Hunger Contacts,
Attached (CLICK HERE) is your copy of the March Issue of the Daily Bread. Please feel free to make copies for all the people in your congregation who can use the information!
The Core Team of the Hunger Network is composed primarily of people who are willing to work on the synod level to provide resources for congregations. If you are interested in joining us, please let me know. We are moving into the era of meeting by WebEx so we don’t have to travel to meetings. All you need is a computer and a separate telephone line…and the willingness to experiment with new technology.
Also…we are hoping to offer workshops in Northern New Mexico, the Salt Lake City area, and Northern Colorado. If you are willing to help organize this effort on the local level, we can travel to you AND provide funds to cover expenses of congregational contacts who attend the workshops. There is much to do in this important work!
Thanks for your faithful service,
Carol A. McDivitt, RMS Hunger Network
